ILSI Korea was inaugurated in September 1995.
The first activity of note, the Scientific Symposium on Current Issues in the Regulation and Safety of Food Additives, held on the inaugural day, gave participants an opportunity to listen to experts speaking about current restrictions and future trends in the regulation of food additives in Korea, international trends in the use and restriction of food additives, the safety assessment of food additives, and general safety aspects of natural and artificial food additives of significance to the Korean food industry.
Activities sponsored since that inaugural meeting have included seminars and symposia on a variety of topics including nutrition and physical activity (1996), scientific and safety assessment of low-calorie sweeteners (1997), and the safety assessment of genetically modified foods (1999).
In addition, in 1998 ILSI Korea published the Korean translation of the 7th edition of Present Knowledge in Nutrition®.
